Advice: do not become pregnant within 1 year

After giving birth, the advice is not to become pregnant for at least one year. This has to do with the fact that your body needs to 'return to normal', by which we mean that your hormones need to stabilize again and your muscles need to become strong again. The hormones during pregnancy have caused your muscles to become weaker and weaker, with the aim of allowing the belly to grow. You can imagine that it is not wise to immediately become pregnant again if your body is still completely disordered. There are different forms of pregnancy prevention birth control possible. In our practice it is possible to have an IUD placed, which is the most reliable form of contraception besides the hormonal rod. You have an IUD with or without hormones.

Advantages of IUD placement during obstetrics

One of the most important advantages of choosing contraception at our midwifery practice is that we take more time for you than with your GP or gynecologist. This means that an IUD does not have to be placed in 10 minutes, but we can first have a calm conversation and take the time to place the IUD calmly. Taking your time will give you a calmer and more comfortable experience, especially if you're nervous. In addition, as midwives we are very broadly trained in the field of women's care. This means we know the anatomy of the uterus and cervix very well.

More patience = less pain

We regularly hear that inserting an IUD was painful in the past, which is why women do not dare to choose an IUD again. This is not necessary at all! With enough rest and time, inserting an IUD should not hurt so much. If it was difficult to insert an IUD last time because the cervix had an abnormal position or thickness, it may be necessary to visit the gynecologist again. But have you never had an IUD? Then definitely choose to have this done in our practice by our experienced midwives.

Cheaper and usually free

Placing an IUD is usually reimbursed from your insurer's supplementary insurance. In addition, installing an IUD with us is much cheaper than with a gynecologist. If it is the case that your insurer does not cover an IUD, then... the costs depend on the type of IUD. It usually costs between €60 and €180, but an IUD is not necessary until later To be replaced 5, 6 or 8 years (exactly when depends on the brand). Feel free to schedule a free consultation with us so that we can inform you about the different types of IUDs.

Control echo

We offer a check-up ultrasound at our practice, six weeks after inserting the IUD. This ensures that you know with certainty that the IUD is still in the right place and that you are protected. Nice to know, right?
